TRAIL MIX
Coed Adventure

Day Hiking on the Triple Crown

Life on the trail can be a mixed bag of challenges and awe-inspiring experiences. You never know what you’re going to get! This Mountain Shepherd adventure on the Appalachian Trail will prepare you with your own mixed bag of basic backpacking and safety skills, so you can explore with confidence in the face of both excitement and obstacles!

Trail Mix gathers adventurers for an introduction to the seven survival priorities (positive mental attitude, wilderness first aid, shelter, fire, signaling, water, and food) in and around Mountain Shepherd’s lodge. Adventurers are guided through all aspects of hiking trip preparation, including an introduction to the basics of hiking and backpacking, like packing and fitting a backpack, preparing a campsite, and managing hunger and thirst on the trail. Our instructors will help you create your own preparedness Trail Mix during this adventure so that you can tackle any future trek with confidence! Adventurers will put their skills to the test on a series of 3 day-hikes on Virginia’s Triple Crown – Tinker Cliffs, McAfee Knob, and Dragon’s Tooth – along the Appalachian Trail.

Have no fear, we’ve got all the gear! You do not need to purchase or bring any of your own gear other than footwear and clothing. Meals and snacks are provided on-trail and at Mountain Shepherd Adventure School, with dietary accommodations made when necessary. This experience begins on Thursday and wraps up on Sunday afternoon. The group departs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings for day hikes in the nearby area.
