Facility Activities

Staying at Mountain Shepherd and looking for something fun to do on-site? We got you! With options like hiking, scavenger hunts, and a soon-to-come disc golf course, you’ll never want to leave. Read more about our options below.

Hiking

One of the best ways to enjoy the property (in our unbiased opinion), hiking around the more than 100-acre property takes you up mountain ridges and by meandering streams flowing down from Sinking Creek Mountain. With over 4 miles of trails to enjoy, there’s plenty of options for fresh-air exercise as you stay on the Mountain Shepherd property. Need help deciding where to go? Just ask! We can tell you how to get to some of our favorite spots on the property. All trails are marked with magenta trail blazes on trees.

Scavenger Hunts

Spend a morning exploring Mountain Shepherd’s 100-acre property and learning about some of our favorite topics. Our first scavenger hunt explores the basics of the 7 priorities of wilderness survival. On this mile-long adventure, you’ll pass by two of Mountain Shepherd’s wilderness classrooms, while learning about the 7 priorities of wilderness survival along the way.

Our second scavenger hunt focuses on the 7 principles of Leave No Trace. Leave No Trace is a series of principles focused on helping people be good environmental stewards, while learning proper environmental ethics. Some great information for outdoor lovers. This scavenger hunt is approximately 1.5 miles long, and has some great views along the way!

Campfires

Who doesn’t love coming together around a fire? Our campfire pits are a great place to unwind and reconnect, while staying on the Mountain Shepherd property. We’ve got two great options for you! Our campfire patio in between the Cabin and the pond, and our newly built pond campfire pit is, you guessed it!, right by the pond.  Visitors who have booked the Cabin also have access to their own fire pit. Don’t forget the s’mores!

Games

Family and friend time means game time! Inside the Pitchwood Pub, we’ve got plenty of board and card games to keep your group engaged throughout the evening. Looking for something a little more active? Our screened-in porch, just off the Pitchwood Pub, has a cornhole bean bag game and a shuffleboard table.  The screened-in porch has a gorgeous view of our surrounding mountains, and a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty while you enjoy a little bit of friendly competition.

Water Activities

New for 2023: Our newly redesigned pond! The pond has now been redesigned and cleaned out so Mountain Shepherd visitors will be able to enjoy warm-weather water activities. Feel free to bring your own boat for a quick float or just cool your feet off on a hot summer day.

*Swim/Recreate at your own risk.*

Also new for 2023 is our disc golf course, that will take you on a 2 mile hike around the property. Stay tuned!
