Day Pack – Kayak Adventure
Overview
Who doesn’t love spending a day on the water? No one! Join us as we explore one of our local paddling destinations for a full-day kayak adventure. Choose between the New River, the James River, Carvins Cove Natural Reserve, or Gatewood Reservoir for a day full of splashy fun. No paddling experience? No worries! We’ll spend the first part of the day going over basic strokes and maneuvers to make everyone is ready for the water. At the end of the day, we’ll shuttle you back to Mountain Shepherd, where you can gear up for your next adventure!
What to Expect
You’ll meet your fellow paddlers at Mountain Shepherd’s gorgeous 100-acre campus. After packing a lunch for the water, we’ll load up in Mountain Shepherd’s van (Dora the Explorer!) and shuttle you to your paddling destination. After a fun filled day on the water, we’ll shuttle you back to Mountain Shepherd. All gear and safety equipment is provided for the day.

Who chooses this adventure?
Paddling experience is not required for this course. We’ll do an introductory paddling lesson before we get on the water, and make sure everyone is feeling comfortable before we embark on our excursion. Depending on water levels, this course will be on rivers with Class I or II rapids or a flat-water reservoir.
This is a course for adults. 18 year olds may come alone. Mature 16 & 17 year olds may come with a responsible partner over the age of 18.

What's Included?
Gear
We will provide kayaks, paddles, and all safety equipment (PFD’s are required). The only required gear you need to bring is appropriate paddling footwear (closed-toed shoes) and quick-dry clothing/bathing suits (see below for packing list).
Meals
Lunch is provided, with plenty of options and dietary accommodations available.
Travel Arrangements
Your adventure begins and ends at the Mountain Shepherd Lodge in Catawba, VA.The nearest airport is Roanoke (ROA), which is approximately a 30 minute drive time.
Arrival time is by 9:30 am on the morning of the training. The course concludes by 4:30 pm. If you prefer to travel the day before, you can stay at the lodge. $50 includes a bunk and breakfast. $25 for each additional person in your group. Group, semi-private and private rooms are available. Contact us for reservations. Payment due before you leave.

Easy to Moderate
No paddling experience necessary. Depending on water levels, this course will be on rivers with Class I or II rapids (small) or a flat-water reservoir.
