Something that we get asked about from our AirBnB cabin guests is, what there is to do around here? Our local area is chock full of outdoor activities, like hiking the world-famous Appalachian Trail, literally right behind our property. We’re always happy to give out information and local beta on our favorite trails for hiking and biking, and rivers and lakes for paddling, but we also wanted to add in some day-long activities and courses our guests can participate in right on our property, and/or taught by our talented instructors. Our newly launched Day Pack Courses do just that!

Also a solid option for locals looking to do something different, our Day Pack Courses offer opportunities to learn about land navigation, learn the basics of wilderness survival, or even try out a stand-up paddleboard for the first time. There are currently seven new day-long courses that we are offering, with several other course ideas in the making. Let’s take a look!

First up is our Survival Basics course. A condensed version of our Survival Essentials 2-day course, this full-day course will go over the basics of the 7 priorities of wilderness survival. From shelter building to starting your own fire to practicing with a signal mirror, students will gain practical survival skills experience. Check out our first course offering on Saturday, February 18th. All of our Day Pack courses include lunch, and transportation to/from our school (if applicable).

Interested in learning more about how to use a map and compass? Join us in a 1-day Land Navigation course, where you’ll learn the basics of utilizing a map and compass to get to where you are going, and how to orient yourself if you do get lost. Looking to decompress? Spending time in nature is the perfect way to do so. Join our nature and mindfulness instructor on a full-day immersive Forest Bathing experience on Mountain Shepherd’s 100-acre property.

Want to try your hand at kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding, but don’t know where to start? We’ve got you! Join us on a 1-day Kayak Adventure or Stand Up PaddleBoard Adventure this summer. Don’t want to wait for us to schedule a date? Contact Dina to set-up a custom program for your group. Lastly, we are working on setting up the option to go Climbing and Rappelling, on a great beginner-friendly crag, as well as the option to take a custom Self-Defense course with our very well-qualified instructor, Jason Miller. .

So whether you want to book your stay for while we are hosting one of our day pack courses, or are a local looking to do something different, join us for one of our new Day Pack adventures! And of course, if you have a little bit more time, choose one of our multi-day adventures, guaranteed to teach you something new and put a smile on your face. See you soon!
